Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed said Bangladesh is going to sign a defence deal with Saudi Arabia to boost military cooperation between the two countries on February 14.
The army chief came up with the announcement after a meeting with Saudi’s chief of joint forces Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili on Sunday, said a press release issued by Bangladesh embassy in Riyadh.
Under the deal, Bangladesh will be defusing mines along the borders of war-torn Yemen, According to the release issued on Monday.
Once the deal is signed, 1,800 Bangladeshi troops will be deployed in Saudi Arabia, which is expected to take bilateral military cooperation to new heights.
During the meeting, General Aziz Ahmed proposed his counterpart Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili about sending military engineers to construct military and civilian construction works in the Middle Eastern country.
According to the press release, Bangladesh named of four military officials including a brigadier general for joining Saudi’s Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition.
“There is excellent bilateral relationship between the two countries,” said the Army Chief, hoping that the ties will be stronger in the future.
