Barisal was freed from Pakistani invaders on this day


Today is Barisal Open Day on 8 December. On this day of 1971, the Pakistani occupation army was freed from Barisal. The city took control of freedom fighters. Everywhere is the flag of independent Bengal.


History shows that a month after the declaration of independence, the Pakistani occupation army occupied Barisal city on 25 April 1971 by attacking on the road and by the waterway and the army was abducted. They build bases inside the Waipda colony located in the southern part of the city. Security bunker builds around The occupants of this colony carry the massacre of the whole southern region.

When the attack of the freedom fighters in December 1971 was intense, the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators were worried. The indefinite evening law was issued to the city from December 7. On December 8, they met at the Deputy Commissioner's Office in a meeting. After the meeting at 10 am in the city curfew, the Pakistani army left Barisal and took the initiative to flee.

After getting information, Indian Air Force fired gunshots, steamers and launch launchers of the Pakistani army fleeing. In this, many of their collaborators, including Shahjahan Chowdhury, the local main associate of the Pakistani army were killed.



On the other hand, a group of freedom fighters led by Base Commander Rezay Sattar Faruk from Royapasha-Kapurpur area started entering the city from 10am. Freedom fighters from the area of Sagardi-Dappapia Another team led by Mannan entered the city. A team led by the commander-commander Sultan Master also entered the city. At 3pm, the freedom fighters entered the Swisal squad town. The freedom fighters took possession of Barisal Kotwali Police Station, collectorate building and jail.

Meanwhile, district freedom fighter Sangsad Organizing Commander Enayet Hossain Chowdhury demanded to preserve the memorials of the War of Liberation.
