Taka 22 thousand 502 crore from the bank: CPD

In the last nine years, the ruling Awami League government has lost Tk 22,500 crore from the bank's bank, said the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a private research organization.

In a dialogue titled 'What is to be done with our banking sector in Bangladesh' at a hotel in the city on Saturday, CPD said this information. Besides, he also said that the political impact of this sector would be lifted, the organization said.

It is said in the report that due to irregularities and corruption, the bank lost Tk 22.52 billion in the last one decade. The money was lost through 14 banks of government and private banks including Bangladesh Bank from 2008 to 2017. Four percent of the cost of construction of Padma is three percent.

According to CPD, the country's bank sector is now in critical condition due to the lack of professionalism, excessive default loans, loan approval without scrutiny, political impact on lending, lack of professionalism of bankers.

At the same time, banks are being fragile due to direct political interference by the approval of the bank, political involvement in the board of directors, misrepresentation of managers, poor bank management and finally credit.

CPD advised to strengthen the central bank to bring discipline to the bank sector, not allow new bank sanctions, and provide five judicial measures with strong judicial system against corruption.

Among the attendees are former governor of Bangladesh Bank. Saleh Uddin Ahmed, former deputy governor of Khandaker Ibrahim Khaled.
