The body of deceased Awami League leader Syed Ashraful Islam, who passed away at a hospital in Thailand on Thursday, was brought back to Bangladesh Saturday evening.
A Biman Bangladesh flight carrying his body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 6:00pm.
AL leaders led by the party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader received the body.
After that, Syed Ashraf’s body will taken to his government residence on Baily Road in the capital around 7:00pm and kept at Combined Military Hospital overnight.
The iconic leader’s first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around 10:30pm on Sunday.
Later, his body will be taken to Kishoreganj by helicopter.
Sources confirmed that Syed Ashraful Islam will be buried at Banani graveyard after Asr prayers.
After battling cancer for a long time, veteran Awami League leader and son of Bangladesh first Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam, Syed Ashraful Islam passed away on Thursday night.
He breathed his last at a hospital in Bangkok, where he was under treatment for the past couple of months.
Syed Ashraf was 68 years old and was admitted in the Bamrungrund Hospital in Bangkok after being diagnosed with cancer
আওয়ামী লীগের সাবেক সাধারণ সম্পাদক ও জনপ্রশাসনমন্ত্রী সৈয়দ আশরাফুল ইসলামের মরদেহ ঢাকায় আনা হয়েছে। শনিবার সন্ধ্যায় তার মরদেহবাহী বাংলাদেশ বিমানের বিজি০৮৯ ফ্লাইটি হজরত শাহজালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরে এসে পৌঁছায়।
আওয়ামী লীগের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়, বিমানবন্দর থেকে সৈয়দ আশরাফের মরদেহ বেইলি রোডে তার সরকারি বাসভবনে নেওয়া হবে। সেখান থেকে তার মরদেহ সম্মিলিত সামরিক হাসপাতালের (সিএমএইচ) হিমাগারে রাখা হবে।
দলটির এক সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে জানানো হয়, রবিবার সকাল সাড়ে ১০টায় সংসদ ভবনের দক্ষিণ প্লাজায় মরহুমের প্রথম জানাজা অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। এরপর হেলিকপ্টার করে কিশোরগঞ্জে নিয়ে যাওয়া হবে তার মরদেহ।
সেখানে দুপুর ১২টায় কিশোরগঞ্জ পুরাতন স্টেডিয়াম মাঠে দ্বিতীয় জানাজা অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। মরহুমের তৃতীয় জানাজা ময়মনসিংহের আঞ্জুমান ঈদগাহ মাঠে দুপুর ২টায় অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। আসর নামাজের পর রাজধানীর বনানী কবরস্থানে তাকে দাফন করা হবে।
বৃহস্পতিবার রাত দশটার দিকে থাইল্যান্ডের রাজধানী ব্যাংককের একটি হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন অবস্থায় শেষ নিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করেন সৈয়দ আশরাফ। মৃত্যুকালে তার বয়স হয়েছিল ৬৮ বছর। তিনি ফুসফুসের ক্যানসারে ভুগছিলেন।
