Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and State Minister for labor Munnujan Sufian will hold a meeting with garment owners and the worker leaders to discuss the ongoing worker protest.
The meeting is set to begin at the labor ministry at 4:00pm.
The government called for patience and cooperation from workers and other stakeholders.
At least 20 people were hurt as garment workers clashed with police in Savar, on the third consecutive day of their protest for an increase in the minimum wage and a set of other demands.
Workers have been blocking the streets in Dhaka daily since Sunday to demand the implementation of the government’s new minimum wage structure.
Workers allege that factory owners are not paying their wages in accordance with the new structure. They also said they face numerous other injustices at the hands of owners.
On Nov 25, the government published a notice boosting the minimum monthly wage by 51 percent to Tk 8,000 for about four million garment workers.
RMG workers have been protesting since Sunday to demand the government implement the new wage structure it has declared for the sector, including the minimum wage.
