JaPa to act as opposition, Ershad confirms


Hussain Muhammad Ershad, chairman of Jatiya Party (JaPa), has confirmed that his party would act as the opposition in the 11th parliament with its elected 22 lawmakers.
Issuing a press release on Friday, HM Ershad confirmed the party’s position for the new parliament.
“As chairman of Jatiya Party, I would like to inform my party’s rank and file and the countrymen that we will act as the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad,” said Ershad.
According to the release, JaPa chief Ershad will act as the main leader of the opposition in the House and Golam Mohammad Quader, co-chairman of the party, will act as the deputy leader of the opposition.
The press release signed by the party chairman said no lawmakers of the party would be included in the cabinet of the new government.
Earlier, on Thursday Jatiya Party said that it has decided to join the Awami League led government in the eleventh parliament.
GM Quader, Co-Chairman of the party, made the announcement on Thursday after a parliamentary meeting of the party at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
“Since we participated in the election under the banner of Awami League, we want to join the government,” said GM Quader.
