Eminent music director, composer and lyricist Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul passed away at a city hospital early Tuesday at the age of 63 due to cardiac arrest.
Bulbul’s family members said he breathed his last around 4 am at Mohakhali’s Ayesha Memorial Hospital.
He was rushed to the hospital after he suffered a heart attack at night.
Imtiaz Bulbul was also a freedom fighter as he joined the Liberation War in 1971 at the age of 15.
He received a number of prestigious awards, including Ekushey Padak in 2010, National Film Award and the President Award.
The legend’s body has been taken back to his Aftabnagar residence. However, the family has not yet decided on the timing for his funeral, his son Samir Ahmed told media men.
But the family sources said the body will be kept at a hospital morgue on Tuesday night and taken to the Central Shaheed Minar at 11am Wednesday for general people to pay tributes to him, Sammilito Sanskritik Jote President Golam Quddus told reporters this morning.
According to his family members, the musician went through a surgery at the National Heart Institute last year for artery blockage.
Bulbul will be remembered for his outstanding composition of ‘Shob Kota Janala Khule Dao Na’ and ‘O Majhi Nao Chaira De’. He also worked as a background musician for hundreds of movies.
In October 2012, Bulbul, a freedom fighter, had gave his testimony for the prosecution against former Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ghulam Azam.
In March, 2013, Bulbul’s younger brother Miraz Ahmed was found dead.
He then claimed that the death of his younger brother came as a result of the testimony. He also sought 24 hours security from the government for his family members.
