The father of a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader was killed in a factional clash between two groups of ruling Awami League at West Abdalpur village in Kushtia sadar upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Moinuddin Biswas, 58, the father of Jewel Rana Halim, General Secretary of BCL Islami University unit.
Police said the clash took place between activists and followers of Abdalpur Union Parishad Chairman Ali Haidar and union Awami League General Secretary Golam Mostafa around 7:30 am.
Islami University Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ratan Sheikh said the two factions had been vying for supremacy in the area for a long time.
Moinuddin was attacked with sharp weapons as the two locked into a clash this morning.
He was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.
