DNCC by-polls, Kishoreganj 1 re-election on Feb 28


The Election Commission has fixed February 28 for holding the by-polls to Dhaka North City Corporation’s (DNCC) mayoral post and the re-election in Kishoreganj 1 parliamentary constituency.
Also, elections to the councilor posts in the 36 new wards – 18 under DNCC and 18 under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) – will be held on the same day.
Election Commission secretary Helaluddin Ahmed came up with the announcement of the polls-schedule while talking to reporters at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon on Tuesday evening.
According to the city polls schedule, the aspirants can submit their nomination papers till January 30.
The commission will scrutinize the nomination papers on February 2 and the last date for nomination withdrawal on February 9.
The DNCC’s mayoral post has been vacant since December 1, 2017 as Mayor Annisul Huq passed away on November 30, 2017.
Meanwhile, the result of the December 30 national election was canceled in Kishoreganj 1 constituency after the death of Awami League leader Syed Ashraful Islam, who was elected MP from that seat, On January 3.
The EC Secretary said that the deadline for submission of nominations for Kishoreganj-1 would be January 31.
The nominations will be scrutinized by February 3 while February 10 has been fixed as the last date for nominations withdrawal.
Former Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, also the then Public Administration minister, has passed away after he was elected as the member of parliament from Kishoreganj constituency in the 11th national election held on December 30.
