Munshiganj trawler capsize: Rescue operation continues through 3rd day

The rescue operation in search of 20 missing workers, who went missing after a soil-laden trawler capsized in the Meghna river in Munshiganj, resumed on Friday for the 3rd day.
With the help of side-scan sonar system, members of Fire Service, River Police, Bangladesh Coast Guard and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) are trying to locate the missing trawler.
Earlier, on Tuesday, a soil-laden trawler from Cumilla carrying 34 workers sank in the Meghna river at Charjhapta in Sadar upazila around 3am after it collided with an oil-laden tanker while heading towards Fatulla in Narayanganj.
Of the 34 workers, all hailing from Pabna and Sirajganj districts, only 14 managed to swim ashore while the rest still remain missing.
BIWTA Chairman Commodore Mozammel Haque informed that even though the rescue teams found the image of a trawler-like metal object in the riverbed in the solar, it was not sure whether it was the sunken trawler.
Meanwhile, the air of the riverbank became heavier with the wails of the relatives of the missing workers who were desperately looking for their loved ones.
A nine-member probe body headed by Additional District magistrate Mobassherul Islam has been formed to investigate the capsize incident.
