Bangladesh Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral AMMM Aurangzeb Chowdhury has been appointed as the new chief of naval staff.
The defence ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday.
Aurangzeb will replace incumbent chief of naval staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, who is scheduled to go into retirement on January 26.
The appointment will come into effect on January 26 as he will be promoted to the rank of vice admiral on the day, said the gazette.
He has been made the navy chief for one and a half years until July 25, 2020, according to the gazette notification.
